Abstract:
This case is set during the leadership transition phase of Intel, the largest semiconductor company and manufacturer of microprocessors in the world. In January 2009, Intel announced that its Chairman Craig Barrett would be succeeded by Jane Shaw. This marked a shift in its tradition of having CEOs and chairmen from within the company's ranks. The case highlights how Barrett helped to build chipmaker Intel into one of the world's most powerful companies. Under Barrett, Intel became one of the world's largest and most successful semiconductor companies. He was confident that the company had a strong technical team which would continue the research and innovation into the future.
